Let's get started
Great! You have taken your first step in relieving your symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems. Welcome!
The Center for Balance is the first -- and remains the only -- physical therapy practice in Cincinnati that evaluates and treats individuals suffering from dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems, no matter the cause. We focus on relieving your symptoms and get you back to the activities you love.
Dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems are not a normal part of aging!
As one of our patients put it, “You guys are a hidden jewel; I didn’t even know there was any type of treatment for my dizziness and balance issues.”
Why choose us?
We get this question a lot.
The answer is simple: We are specialists trained in treating individuals suffering from dizziness, vertigo, and balance deficits. Our sole practice concentration is in this area, and we have developed specialized evaluation and treatment techniques to get you better quicker.
Our clinics are designed in a comfortable atmosphere, not a gym-like setting typical in traditional clinics. Another big benefit is that our patients are surrounded by patients with similar symptoms.
Our treatment session(s) are one-on-one clinician to patient, and last approximately 45-60 minutes. We will give you our undivided attention.
What about insurance?
Insurance coverage is certainly confusing, but do not worry! We take the hassles out of it for you.
We check all insurance coverage benefits for you. We will not surprise you with unwanted charges or hidden fees.
Once you come for your first visit, you will know exactly how much, if any, charges for co-pays you may be responsible for.
We also track your allotted number of visits or monetary caps, so you do not go over. Insurances not listed may be accepted, and we will check for you.
Do I need a referral?
In the state of Ohio, you do NOT need a physician referral to be treated at The Center for Balance.
After your initial visit, your therapist will send a report of our evaluation findings to your referring physician, primary care physician, or any other physician of your choice. We like to keep everybody in the loop.
For Medicare patients, the initial assessment is covered, and a plan of care for our services will be sent to your physician to be signed, then you are good to go.
What happens at my first visit?
Your first visit will take approximately 60 minutes. We will discuss your history and perform physical testing to get to the bottom of your symptoms. Then we will create a plan of care to meet your individual needs.
First, we will ask you to arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete some necessary paperwork. Arriving early to complete the forms allows us more time to evaluate you individually. For your convenience, you also may download the paperwork here on our website under the Patient Center Tab, complete it at home and bring it with you.
Please bring these items with you:
- A copy of your insurance card(s)
- A list of medications
- Your driver’s license
- A copy of any test results that have been performed for you.
- You may also bring a copy of your doctors’ referral if you have one; Although, in the state of Ohio, you do not need a doctor referral for us to treat you.
On your first visit, a licensed physical therapist will perform a thorough evaluation (we leave no stone un-turned), to identify your symptoms including dizziness, vertigo, balance problems, and if you are at a risk of falling.
Your physical therapist will explain the findings of their assessment so you understand why you are having symptoms and how best to treat them.
Our evaluation and treatment programs were developed by Dr. Shumrick in 1995, and he and his staff continually update and improve them each year to ensure the best quality of care available for you.
